Want to write in a free flowing style? Forget it, here you have to tap to add an element, type it into the resultant pop-up, then hit done. This doesn’t take you back to your script, instead keeping you in the pop-up window view. Frustrating and not very efficient.
Developer Response, You can turn on inline editing in the app settings. Please try the newly updated version of the app.
Fade In allows you to unleash your inner Christopher Nolan (or in my case, Ed Wood), providing a set of powerful, but straightforward, tools for screenwriting. Fade In is focused entirely on writing scripts, rather than that being a mode or template in a more general-purpose writing tool. I have only written a few short scripts professionally, but even that limited experience allows me to appreciate how intuitive and easy Fade In is to use.Fade In's clean design and easy interface allows screenwriters to focus on words, not formatting.Fade In takes care of the minutiae for you, such as numbering scenes, and it tracks the data intelligently.
That is, it knows you've begun a scene when you use the 'Scene Heading' style. The scene then shows up in the navigation sidebar. If you need to move a scene around, you can do so from the navigator, so there's no need to select and cut blocks of text. You can link a sequence of scenes together (for example, an exciting chase might consist of many small scenes that intercut), and move the entire block at once, but the individual scenes remain individual and can be rearranged within the sequence, or removed from it. The tutorial will take you through the earliest steps and show you how to quickly change styles or what automated responses to expect.Likewise, Fade In is clever about changing styles as you type to follow the usual flow of scriptwriting, from scene to description to character to dialog. You can manually change styles as well, and the actual look of the styles can be edited as desired. It can identify character names as you type, and you can change a character name and see that name change throughout the script.
It likewise makes note of locations, and it will offer pop-ups as you type if it thinks you're typing a location or character it knows. You can attach notes to any paragraph, and summaries to any scene.
Reports show such things as characters and how many lines of dialog there are, or how many locations have been specified.Revisions made to a script after filming begins can be color-coded, following the standard Hollywood script color scheme. The color changes apply to each revised page, and move in sequence from white to blue to pink and so on. Again, Fade In lets you override the default colors.Fade In can also 'lock' scenes so that no matter where they are in the script, they will be tagged with their original page and scene number. This is necessary to keep scenes intact after filming has started.Fade In saves scripts in its own format (.fadein), but can also save in plain text, PDF, HTML, and Final Draft formats. It is also capable of reading Final Draft output, so users of that program can see how Fade In works with an existing script. Printed output offers not just the script, but the ability to print earlier revisions or character sides (sections of the script pertaining to just a single character).I have only a few minor complaints about Fade In.
I found a few interface oddities and annoyances, such as having to click back in the edit area after clicking a new style, instead of being able to continue typing. The note window closes with a close box, not a save button; it was not immediately obvious that your edits would be saved, as usually closing a window via the 'X' box either deletes the contents or prompts you to save them.
During testing, I found a small graphical glitch, which has since been corrected; Fade In is updated on a rapid cycle, addressing bugs and adding features constantly. The demo version of Fade In contains nearly all the functionality of the full version, though it prints a watermark on output and pops up reminders about registration after your script has grown beyond ten pages. At an introductory price of $50, Fade In is quite reasonable if you do any scriptwriting, or intend to; the ease of use over a generic word processor for this purpose is instantly obvious.

At the full price of $100, it would still be a good deal, but less likely to appeal to the casually curious. The demo has no time limit, so a potential buyer can experiment a lot before committing.-Ian Harac.
Fade In is a complete application for writing motion picture screenplays, including tools for outlining, organizing, and navigating, plus extensive screenplay formatting and robust tools for managing rewrites and revisions. And it works with Fade In Mobile for your iPhone or iPad.Fade In's modern, state-of-the-art application interface does everything professional screenwriters need and expect their software to do. Its extensive formatting capabilities take care of formatting for you, automatically transitioning from scene headings to action to dialogue as you type.
It includes a full range of standard screenplay styles: you can use the built-in default styles, customize them, or create your own. The software keeps track of the character names and locations you use and can provide as-you-type autocompletion suggestions. Spend less time typing and more time writing. You can organize your screenplay however you like, marking and color-coding significant sequences, plot points, themes, characters, and other story elements so you'll always have a clear overview of your work. Finally, a smart, rock solid Screenwriting app based on Fountain. It is every inch a Final Draft contender and the way the app's developer has set up the Reports and other critical functions, users probably will be able to suggest very workable additions. For example, I can visualise a report that allows a writer to both see and edit a single character's dialogue at the same time. This would enable a writer to 'ear test' each character's dialogue seperately and in context.
This alone would be worth the honest price of Fade In. A very feasible addition and one the developer can work on in due course in Fountain. I have been using Fade In for the last three months and Fade In has not skipped a beat. I have not missed Final Draft for moment. It is fairly priced at about the same as Scrivener and about one third the price of the venerable Final Draft. It does everything Final Draft does and does it all superbly well. One of the best purchases I have made as a working screenwriter.

One of the best purchases I have made as a working screenwriter. Highly reconmmended! In reply to A1Are you a robot? Is that a stamp on your heart pump or maybe your cyber-brain. I guess your partner in life is A2.I think the developer lives in the US - or maybe the UK. I was Chairman of the AWG for two terms.
Fade In Professional Screenwriting Software
I taught Screenwriting at University. I am a beta tester for Scrivener, Montage, Contour and several other writing apps. I use Fade In and Highland as my preferred screenwriting apps because of the practical everyday functionality and ease of use. If I recommend apps to fellow AWG members and other colleagues I have to stand accountable for them spending their dollars wisely. I never recommend an app unless I have used it myself under genuine conditions relevant to the app's use and also make sure I use it for a reasonable period and always, always, always do all the tutorials and read the manuals to make sure I am using its features correctly and so that my recommendations are as rigorous as I can make them.I always give credit where it is due and this app is gaining more and more traction all the time simply because it actually delivers.

Which is factually all I claimed. To answer your question - NOTHING, ZERO, ZILCH, NOT A RAZOO!Oh! And for your information the comment above about being able to ear test a single character's dialogue and also edit that single character's dialogue in situ has now been implemented by the developer - with the Dialogue Tuner in version 2This developer is outstanding - it was there after and fully functional after one or two iterations (in a month or so). I put that idea to Final Draft and Movie Magic Screenwriter YEARS ago - Nothing! They have tin ears and don't listen. The best and only real alternative to final draft, which intentionally (it seems) doesn't support any language other than the ones they provide proofing dicts for.if only the dev of Fade In could find a way to implement that patented(?) thingy of FD when you just press the tab buttonanother thing I'd do if i was the dev is import an enormous FD script with the FD template and the same font and compare the amount of pages. That's rather important for A.D.'
Sit also would be a nice idea to check the ability to import a Fade In FD exported script into Movie Magic Scheduling (and the likes?).
